Going on the Three Countries Tour to Slovakia and Poland and Hungary was a wonderful experience comprised of friendship, finding family, lots of love and laughter, singing and dancing, communication and comraderie, visiting the craftspeople, enjoying the native food, touring the city sights and hiking the paths to the caves and castles, viewing the beauty of the mountains and the valleys, and absorbing the countryside throughout the Slovakian bus ride made for one great trip. Who can forget the people in Lendak...Sharing our experiences on the bus rides...Chatting with each other over dinner and wine... singing with Jozef Ivaska....seeing my grandfather's birth listed in the old parish records? Meeting wonderful people from all over the United States, all with a link to these countries made for a trip of a lifetime. Slovakia is such a beautiful country...a gracious and interesting culture. Those ‘one-on-one local family stops' were most precious having revealed Slovakia's true spirit, in city, country and mountains alike. Your Treasures of Slovakia Tour truly is a treasure. Highlights include walking on the ground from which our Kasperan grandpar-ents migrated to America and then finding it still family owned. A flag from Kucin presented by the mayor was an awesome moment arranged by rela-tives. Thank you for making these precious arrangements. We truly enjoyed the tour moreso, combined, the knowledge and expertise of not only you but Jozef, and Edo as well. God willing we hope to do the trip again ASAP.” |

Even for those who have no family connections or ties (as I have none), the visiting of homes, the library being created by a woman in a small village, the village folk dancers set up just for our group entertainment, etc, made an exciting trip. History is put together and we see how people survived the Stalin and communist era. The fabric of the people and remoteness of mountains and valleys and their deep faith held them together. For those finding family connections as my brother-in-law did was supreme in their connection even though we needed an interpreter. With the second trip and connection it was like old home week. Can you immagine finding an old, old, working sawmill on a tiny stream next to a violin maker in a tiny village!
