Treasures of Slovakia Tour! 30th The best of Slovakia Tour! East to West and North to South! Experience castles, culture, folklore, folk art, museums, local food, wine tasting, parties, festivals, music, song, museums, village interaction, finding long-lost family! July 7 – 16, 2019 Land only - $2,299; single room add $599 Sat.,July 6 - Early Birds – If you arrive July 6, the day before the tour begins (leave US on July 5), we can make a reservation for you at our Bratislava Hotel. We’ll meet tour goers who arrive at Vienna airport on the 6th and transport them to our hotel. We have planned a festive dinner at a super location. Both early bird hotel and dinner are optional. Sun, July 7 – Our Celebration Tour begins 9:00 am. Travel scenic roads to 13th century Orava Castle, 1,000 steps to the top, spectacular views from the heights. A festive welcome party... we toast Slovak champagne and enjoy villagers presenting music, dance and wedding customs of eastern Slovakia. We'll dance! (3 nights - the Slovak Paradise in SPIS, Eastern Slovakia) Mon., July 8 – Travel into remote, beautiful Zamagurie to Stara Lubovna’s outdoor museum – the homes depict birth, wedding, death and holiday customs. Take a unique raft ride on the scenic Dunajec River in Pieniny National Park and step into Poland. Raft drivers tell legends. We top off the day with a Goral picnic and lively local tunes. Tues., July 9 – Everyone loves walled, medieval Levoca with its historic buildings, Master Paul’s statues and old legends. We’ll tour grand St. Jakub’s Cathedral with a dozen carved & painted altars from the late 1500s. Explore Spis Castle, the largest Gothic ruin in Europe and/or take a mini-hike to see butterflies/mountain flowers. Feast on local gulas and dance with vibrant villagers at a Rusyn wedding. Experience Slovak hospitality! Wed. July 10 – We head east to Presov to marvel at the Greek Catholic Cathedral with icons galore and then time to explore the historic square, beautiful Catholic cathedral or local museum. Tour beautifully restored Kosice's old town and marvel at St. Elizabeth’s Cathedral, the famed Singing Fountain and more. (2 nights in Kosice (ABOV) Thurs., July 11 - To Bardejov, the Pearl of Saris, Slovakia’s other walled town and a UNESCO Treasure. our the historic square and magnificent St. Egidius Church. Enjoy the unique icon museum. Find out why the statue atop town hall moons the mayor's office. Visit an ancient onion-domed wooden Rusyn church with icons and stories galore. Then on to a most amazing village church with all kinds of treasures. Dinner at a favorite and fun local restaurant in Bardejov. |
Fri., July 12 –
On to historic Kezmarok under the majestic High Tatra Mountains. We'll view the grand
opening medieval parade and enjoy the streets filled with crafts demonstrations and treasures for sale
at the largest International Crafts Festival in Europe, 100 plus exhibitors, folk dancing and local
foods galore. Next stop UNESCO treasure Vlkolinec, a pristine mountain village. On to Banska Bystrica
in the heart of Slovakia. (2 nights - Banska Bystrica ZVOLEN, central Slovakia)
Sat., July 13 – Guided tour of Banska Bystrica’s historic square and the castle/cathedral. Enjoy the farmer's market and sample strudel, climb the learning tower for a bird’s eye view. Visit the famed Museum of the National Uprising cleverly shaped like a shepherd’s hat; featuring interactive displays of Slovakia’s role in WWII and the bravery of the partisans. On to the colorful Detva Folk Festival with music, song, dance, crafts and foods. Then an atmospheric dinner with Slovak specialties and local music. Back to BB to enjoy a night lights walking tour of the historic square; end up in an outdoor café in this vibrant venue. Sun., July 14 – Time for a church service then a drive through spectacular scenery. We head west and follow the mighty Vah River on a castle-studded ride. Visit the stunning Nativity that focuses on Slovak village life and history, then charming Cicmany to marvel at the log homes decorated with ancient motifs. We’ll party, dine and dance in Krakovany where the folk group performs western Slovak village wedding customs just for us. (2 nights in Bratislava, southwestern Slovakia, the capital) Mon., July 15 – Immerse in Slovakia's famed capital...Bratislava is the only capital in the world that abuts two other countries, Austria and Hungary. See the charming old town with a local guide to learn the history and legends; time to shop...so many souvenir stores and stands, antique shops and boutiques, cathedrals and charming cafes and pastry shops. Festive farewell dinner in a quaint village inn plus a wine tasting of local specialties- a joyful ending to our Celebration Treasures Tour! Tues. , July 16 - Do Videnia… Farewell or continue on to Golden Prague for the Prague AddOn. |
