Festive welcome to Rajasthan with dinner on the rooftop of our hotel. Local music and a marvelous array of delicacies served up under the stars! 2 nights at a heritage style hotel Shapura House in Jaipur B D Tues., Dec. 3 – Alluring Jaipur, the colorful Pink City, where the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel movies were filmed! Marvel at the magical Hawa Mahal, Palace of the Winds, one of the loveliest buildings in India. Ascend to the picturesque Amber Fort on a painted elephant, long ago only the Maharajah was allowed this. Guided tour of the Palace/Fort. Optional lunch at Surbhi restaurant in the courtyard of the Turban Museum with a colorful musician to entertain us. Enjoy your first Lassi, a delicious Indian smoothie. Visit the shop where celebs from around the world come to buy gems and exotic jewelry and textiles, many of our group found treasures here at great prices. Then a home visit cooking demo aand dinner, meet extended family and marvel at the freshly ground spices used to prepare our feast. Experience traditional customs. B D Wed., Dec. 4 – Visit the famed Jaipur Flower Market for mountains of marigolds and incredible photo opps of flowers and faces. Travel to Shekhawati to explore stunning and haunting deserted painted palaces decorated in Mughal style. Our hotel is a meticulously restored 19th century painted haveli, with pristine pool and Ayurvedic wellness center with massages. Candelight Dinner in the garden with local entertainers. Historic hotel in Mandawa, the spectacular Viviaana Haveli, B D Thurs., Dec. 5 – If you've never ridden a camel – this is your big chance for a camel safari in the desert, a big hit with our tour-goers! A great glimpse of life in the desert and an opportunity to see wildlife and rare birds, we spotted five glorious Egyptian eagles flitting nearby! Then a rare experience - dinner in the desert and a Fire Dance by the Siddh community - they walk on the hot coals and even blow them from their mouths. It's spectacular. Plus incredible star gazing! Overnite glamping in a Desert Camp. B D Fri., Dec. 6 – A totally unique experience, Karni Mata, a one of a kind temple to Rats in Deshnok with a compelling story. of the Fort. 2 nights in heritage hotel, Pal Haveli in Jodhpur B D Sat., Dec. 7 - Guided tour of Mehrangarh Fort and marvelous photo opps of the famed blue houses. We visit a shop we love – room after room of antiques wood carvings & jewelry, plus embroidered and woven textiles at totally amazing prices – great place for gift shopping! On to learn about the Bishnoi, a people famed for their ecological and health practices who were the first tree huggers. The Bishnoi live in homes of sticks or mud, no rain there for 18 years! We visit a village home to take part in an opium ceremony and then a Bird Sanctuary with clouds of flamingos. Sun. Dec. 8 – Driving day - we travel thru the countryside to a new state Gujarat for our stay in an exotic country palace to be greeted by the charismatic Maharajah and his family. Tour the palace – the harem, the sculpture filled gardens and a fabulous textile collection with items and saris for sale. Climb to the gazebo on top for a magnificent view. Stroll the village lanes for photo opps galore. Dinner of local delights. 2 nights at historic Palace Darbargadh in Poshina B D Mon., Dec. 9 - Get your cameras ready – the charismatic Maharajah will lead our jeep safari into Garacia and Adivasi villages (the Adivasi are considered the aboriginal settlers). We travel back roads and drive through a creek to remote villages where we will be invited into homes and have an opportunity to meet and visit with villagers, the children love to see us come. We view one site of the terracotta horses; incredibly moving and the magic mountain where more than 30,000 of the horses carry the wishes and prayers of the people who placed them there. Relax on the palace veranda and be royalty! B L D Tues., Dec. 10 - On to Udaipur, often we see the Rabari, gypsy shepherds, along the way moving their households with beds tied to camels and baby goats atop burros. Udaipur is famed for its floating Rajput Palace on Lake Pichola. If weather permits we'll take a boat ride on the lake (photo ops galore) to a charming island where you can take unique pix, admire the birds and exotic buildings and sample unusual ice cream flavors. One night in a historic heritage hotel, Karohi Haveli B Wed. Dec. 11 - Four hour drive to Bundi but we'll stop along the way to photograph nomads, shepherds & sheep or sugar cane harvesters. Bundi is Hippie Heaven, a bit scruffy, we love the winding roads and exotic views. First a walking tour to visit with shopkeepers and artisans, see the colorful temple, and marvel at the treasures and antiques of a 7th generation silversmith! Time to tour the palace/fort. Our historic haveli hotel is in the heart of Bundi's old town and our travelers loved the silk scarves and textiles in a mini shop there. Festive farewell candlelit dinner. Historic Haveli Braj Bhushanjee and Museum with views of the castle fort B D Thurs., Dec. 12 – Early start for drive to Jaipur where we will board a flight to Delhi & Farewell! Interesting, unique accommodations, great food, plenty of cold bottled water on the bus every day!
