July 17 - July 25, 2012 Tues., July 17 Our Central Europe tour will meet at Vienna Airport by 10 am and head for picturesque Budapest. Stroll the old town lanes, visit the historic iron market – Hungarian delights and souvenirs galore. Welcome dinner with glass of wine at a cardas and enjoy a spirited folklore show . (2 nights in Budapest, Hungary) Wed., July 18 Explore Budapest with a stunning Danube River cruise; then a sightseeing tour to marvel at glorious Heroes Square, dramatic Castle Hill and romantic Fisherman's Bastion. Re-visit the Old Town to enjoy the cafes and quaint shops. Dinner with local specialties. Thurs., July 19 Drive across Slovakia, stop in Brezno, a historic mining town with a charming square, then traverse the pastoral Horehronie valley to Pieniny National Park for a raft ride in the incredibly scenic gorge on the Dunajec River between Slovakia and Poland. We are usually lucky and see the rare black stork. Celebrate in the Beliansky Tatry mts in a quaint inn with local food and music. (1 night Zdiar, Slovakia) Fri., July 20 Cross into Poland over the High Tatra Mts. and on to magical Krakow for a sightseeing tour. Board a mini train to glimpse Old Town sights from Wawel Castle to the Jewish Quarter, then stroll the square and see an amazing selection of Polish crafts in the historic Cloth Hall in the main square as the notes from the famed trumpeter float down on the hour, enjoy the flower market and the cafes on the square followed by dinner in the Old Town. (2 nights in Krakow, Poland) Sat., July 21 Enjoy Krakow’s museums and cafes or take an optional tour to the Royal Salt Mine, a UNESCO Treasure, and/or Auschwitz, the Nazi death camp. Feast on Polish specialties at Chlopsky jadlo, a traditional country cottage. Sun., July 22 Castle-studded trip to Straznice, Moravia in the Czech Republic to visit gorgeous Milotice Castle and experience the folk culture with a wine tasting in a village wine cellar, see a famed egg decorator at work and sample local delights. ( 1 night Straznice, Czech Republic) Mon., July 23 Cruise the Danube River in Austria's scenic Wachau Valley to enjoy verdant vineyards, castles and quaint villages. Visit glorious Melk with its famed monastery and lovely medieval Durnstein with its castle ruins, winding byways, flowers galore and apricot specialties followed by dinner at a family gasthaus. (2 nights in Austria) Tues, July 24 Magnificent Vienna, home of the Hapsburgs for 600 years, tour the highlights and then stroll the quaint Old Town. Stefansdom, St. Stefan’s Cathedral, dominates Vienna’s central square flanked by cafes and shops selling famous Viennese delicasies like Sacher Tort and Viennese coffee. Free time to shop, visit a museum, browse antique shops or optional visit to Schonbrunn Castle. Farewell party at a quaint heuriger – local wine or beer with a traditional wiener schnitzel and apple strudel dinner. Wed., July 25 Farewell or continue on tour Add On. |
